Selle Royal is an Italian saddle maker founded in 1956 by Riccardo Bigolin in Pozzoleone, near Vicenza. They’ve spent the last seventy years building saddles for everyday cyclists, and they’re now part of a wider group that also includes Fizik, Brooks and Crank Brothers.
For us, they’re the brand whose name you’ll find on a lot of bikes that come through our workshop. Many Riese & Müller, Gazelle and Estarli e-bikes ship from the factory with a Selle Royal saddle fitted as standard – their saddles are built for upright and moderately upright riders, which is the position those bikes put you in.
Why we stock Selle Royal
Most cycling-press attention goes to the racing end of the saddle market: narrow shells, minimal padding, built for forward-leaning aero positions. Selle Royal works the opposite end. Their range is designed around comfort for upright and moderately upright riding, where the priority is sit-bone support rather than weight or aerodynamics.
There’s a simple physical reason this matters: the more upright you sit, the wider apart your sit bones spread, and the wider your saddle needs to be to support them. A comfortable touring saddle looks completely different to a road racing one for that reason – and fitting a road-style saddle to an upright e-bike is one of the more common comfort problems we see in the workshop.
If you’re buying a bike from us that comes with a Selle Royal saddle as standard, it’s already a sensible match for the posture the bike puts you in. If it isn’t – or if you’ve inherited the wrong saddle on an older bike – we can help you find the right one.
Selle Royal saddles we stock
We carry a selection of Selle Royal saddles at the showroom:
- Comfort and touring saddles for upright and moderately upright riders
- E-bike saddles built for typical commuter and trekking riding positions
- Replacement saddles for customers upgrading or refitting existing bikes
If there’s a particular model you’re after, get in touch – we can usually order it in alongside another delivery. Saddle choice is personal enough that it’s often worth a quick conversation about how and where you ride before you commit.
Saddle fitting at our showroom
Saddles are easier to choose with the bike in front of you. If you’re unsure what you need, bring the bike in and we’ll walk you through Selle Royal’s three riding positions – 45°, 60° and 90° – and help match you to a saddle width that fits your sit bones and your riding style. There’s no charge for the conversation.
