OnGuard accessories Angle-grinder-resistant bike security

The OnGuard RockSolid lock

OnGuard's bikes

Cordless angle grinders changed bike security. In a few seconds, a thief with a battery-powered grinder can cut through almost any traditional U-lock, including locks rated Sold Secure Gold. The lock industry’s response was a new category of designs built to resist grinding discs – harder steels, rotating sleeves, and shackle materials engineered to bind the disc rather than get cleanly cut. Sold Secure introduced a Diamond rating to mark this new tier of lock.

OnGuard’s contribution to that category is the RockSolid U-lock, and it’s the main reason we stock the brand.

Why we stock the RockSolid

The RockSolid is one of the cheapest locks in the angle-grinder-resistant category, one of the lightest, and has tested well in independent real-world reviews. For the customers it suits, that’s a strong combination: light enough to carry every day, and significantly cheaper than its closest competitors.

If you lock and unlock your bike several times a day, or you don’t want a lock to dominate the weight of an otherwise light e-bike, the RockSolid is a sensible answer.

Choosing the right lock

The RockSolid isn’t the only lock in the angle-grinder-resistant category, and it isn’t the right answer for every customer. There are heavier and more expensive locks with their own genuine advantages, and we stock a couple of those alternatives too. If you’d like to compare options before deciding, get in touch and we’ll talk you through what we have and which one suits your situation.

It’s also worth saying: not everyone needs an angle-grinder-resistant lock. If you mostly lock your bike at home or in low-risk locations, a conventional Sold Secure Gold lock may be plenty. The right answer depends on where the bike will be locked, for how long, and how often.
