Spring is coming: new arrivals and old friends

As February winds down and we catch glimpses of longer days ahead, we’ve been busy in the workshop with a lovely mix of the old and the new. Just like the changing seasons, the e-bike world keeps evolving, and we’re excited to share what’s been happening at E-Radicals this month.

Vintage meets modern: a Dutch classic returns

Remember last month when we mentioned that 10-year-old Gazelle we brought back to life? Well, this month, we had the pleasure of working on a proper classic – a non-electric Gazelle that’s been faithfully serving its owner for somewhere between 20-30 years! There’s something deeply satisfying about giving these well-built machines a new lease of life. After a thorough service and plenty of TLC, we returned it to its delighted Dutch owner who couldn’t stop smiling. It’s bikes like these that remind us why quality matters – with proper maintenance, these machines can serve for decades, not just years.

Say hello to the Delite5: the ultimate e-bike has arrived

We’re thrilled to announce that Riese & Müller’s new Delite5 has arrived, and it’s genuinely impressive. R&M describes it as “the ultimate e-bike,” and we’re inclined to agree.

What makes it special? For starters, the full-suspension system (featuring Fox suspension) paired with their Control Technology means this bike maintains contact with the ground even at higher speeds. Whether you’re tackling your daily commute or heading out for longer weekend adventures, the Delite5 handles it all with remarkable stability.

The powerful mid-mounted motor is paired with a removable 800Wh battery integrated into the downtube, giving you serious range. We particularly love the sporty frame geometry and the dropper seatpost that lets you adjust your riding position on the fly – perfect for tackling varied terrain across Lancashire and the Lake District.

And for the sustainability-conscious among you (which is most of our customers!), the frame is manufactured in Portugal using 30% recycled aluminium. Quality, performance, and environmental responsibility: that’s the perfect combination. In April, we’ll be one of the first shops in the UK to take delivery of its step-through sibling, the Homage5.

Family transport reimagined: the Packster2 70

For those of you looking to transport little ones (or not-so-little grocery hauls), we’re excited to introduce the updated Packster2 70 with its innovative buggy option.

This cargo bike makes family transport genuinely easy and sustainable. The permanently fitted box is made of environmentally friendly, fully recyclable EPP material produced with zero emissions. But what really sets this model apart is the thoughtful design for families. The optional child seats come with five-point safety belts, and the buggy option features half-height side walls that make it easy for children to climb in and out while still providing excellent protection.

We’ve been testing it around Lancaster’s narrower streets, and despite its cargo capacity, it’s remarkably manoeuvrable thanks to the cable-controlled steering. Even when fully loaded, you can navigate tight spaces with confidence – something that can’t be said for all cargo bikes.

With its high-performance headlight, daytime running lights, and well-distributed reflectors, visibility is excellent. For those concerned about safety when carrying precious cargo, the optional Bosch eBike ABS with Magura disc brakes provides reliable control even during sudden stops.

Spring cleaning: how to wash your e-bike (without breaking it)

As we head toward spring and those winter salt deposits start looking a bit unsightly, many of you have been asking about the best way to clean your e-bikes. So here’s our quick guide:

First things first – step away from the pressure washer! While it might be tempting to blast away that winter grime, high-pressure water can force its way into bearings, electrical connections, and motor housings, causing far more problems than dirty paintwork.

Instead, grab a bucket of warm water with a mild detergent (washing-up liquid works fine), a soft sponge, and a few old towels. Work from top to bottom, being particularly gentle around electrical components, and rinse with a watering can or gentle hose – never aim water directly at the motor, display, or battery contacts.

For chains and drivetrains, degrease separately using a bike chain degreaser and an old toothbrush. Once everything’s clean and dry, reapply lubricant to moving parts and you’re good to go!

Sustrans’ Way of the Roses cycle route map

Plan your spring adventures: Sustrans maps in stock

With better weather (hopefully) on the horizon, we’ve stocked up on excellent cycle maps from Sustrans showing cycle-friendly routes across different parts of the UK. Whether you’re planning a weekend jaunt or a more ambitious expedition, these maps are invaluable for finding the quieter, more scenic routes.

We’ve got special maps for specific rides like the Way of the Roses (a personal favourite that passes right by our doorstep in Lancaster), plus regional maps covering the North West and Southern Scotland. Pop in for a coffee and we’d be happy to highlight some local routes that showcase what e-bikes do best – helping you enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
