Cycling UK magazine says cargo bikes are “loads better”
“The e-cargo bike makes otherwise boring trips an experience. We see and feel things in a way you can’t in a car.” So says the latest issue of the official Cycling UK magazine. I was delighted to see this feature and read all the positive stories from parents who have made the switch, and haven’t looked back!

Gazelle Demo Day – Friday 16 May
I’m chuffed to announce the shop is hosting its first official demo day on Friday 16 May, running from 10:30am to 5pm. You may know we already offer free test rides on all our bikes, but we’re taking things up a notch with our first dedicated demo day. We’ll have demo models of almost every electric bike in Gazelle’s range, and our friend Eddy from Gazelle will be with us to answer questions and talk about all things e-bike. Naturally, there will also be an endless supply of Dutch stroopwafels to keep everyone fuelled!
You don’t have to RSVP or anything, but please let us know if you’ll be coming and there are any specific bikes you’d like to try.
Does your employer provide access to the Cycle to Work scheme?
If not, we can help you get them on board! Although it’s been around for decades, there still seems to be quite a lot of misunderstanding about the Cycle to Work scheme. Fundamentally, it provides a way for both you and your employer to save money by sacrificing part of your salary to buy a new bike – with the potential to save up to 47% off the price of a new bike! The cost of the bike is effectively deducted from your salary from one year, meaning you and your employer pay less national insurance, and you pay less tax.
Although the scheme is regulated by the government, there are lots of different providers who implement it in slightly different ways. We can offer bikes through all the providers, but we’re particularly impressed with the Green Commute Initiative, and the resources they offer for employers and employees.

Campaign for safer cycling on the A6
We’re supporting a campaign for better cycling infrastructure on the A6 in Lancaster. You may be aware that today is polling day for local elections in many parts of the UK, including Lancaster. The campaign group has posted this handy guide to which local political candidates are supporting their call for safer cycling infrastructure.
Bank holiday closure this Saturday 3 May
Today is also International Workers’ Day. The UK of course will be observing this May Day bank holiday on Monday 5 May. As we’re normally closed on Mondays anyway, we’re going to take an opportunity to rest and recharge this Saturday 3 May.
